Tim O'Day's Page

Tim is the best and most dedicated fan/roadie/friend the band has (with the exception of our spouses...) and has written lyrics for the band as well. "Early Springtime Rainfall" is his first recorded song for the band and can be sampled at our MP3 download page. The following poem is excerpted from the book "Ring Them Bells," a collection of prose and poetry from members of the Mid-State Poetry Towers. This poem is copyright 2000 by Mid-State Poetry Towers and New Past Press Inc., Friendship, WI 53934.

Trap

I set my trap,

place pen and paper

on the nightstand

just in case.

Should inspiration come

prowling through the darkness;

should words and rhythms fill my dreams,

I will be ready.

But for all my careful planning

all I have in the morning

is a sheet of blank paper,

an arctic expanse of whiteness...

Whiter than a caged dog's smile

as he contemplates killing his master,

as he dreams of running free...

Whiter than sunlight

dancing over a snow covered body

the day after the search for the lost child

has been abandoned...

Whiter than a splintered end

of gnawed off leg bone,

left like a sacrifice

in the jaws of a trap.
